I graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Occupational Therapy Practice in 2018, and went on to work at Glenroy Specialist School, which is a state school catering specifically for students who have physical, or multiple, disabilities or complex health needs. I worked within a transdisciplinary team of speech language therapists, physiotherapists, teachers, nurses, and educational support staff.
My role as a school-based occupational therapist was centred on enabling and supporting independence and engagement as part of the students’ school life.
I worked with students of varying ages to develop independence throughout their school day, from accessing technology and supporting their sensory needs, to supporting their seating/positioning needs and developing mealtime skills.
I have been involved in staff training and education around manual handling, mealtime independence and support, transport safety, seating/positioning, and sensory processing interventions.
I am passionate about enablement and independence. I believe that my role is to tap into the strengths and capacities of my clients and to support them in achieving their goals and gaining increased independence, whatever that looks like for them.
